My Digital Autobiography:

How much effort did you exert on this task?
I would say I put a first-class amount of effort into this project. :) I definitely didn’t spend the entire day working on my digital autobiography, but I did spend between 1-2 hours. It was important to me that I picked the best pictures to describe who I am & who is involved in my life. I would have loved to be able to put more than 10 pictures, but this limit truly made me choose what pictures I think best represent my life. It also took time to get familiar with Photoshow. I had never used this program before & there were many different styles, captions, fonts, colors, music, & themes that I had the opportunity to explore.
What is the value in completing this course task?
I believe this task was very valuable. I found it extremely exciting to be able to introduce myself in a very unique way. Most classes that I attend use very typical introduction activities: “speed-dating,” partner introductions, or simply standing in front of the room introducing who I am & what my major is. These introduction activities get repetitive & don’t give a good description of who someone actually is.
How does completing this course task impact your future teaching?
This task impacts my future as an educator in many ways. First, it showed me that one simple activity can change the entire atmosphere of how a class will be the rest of the year or semester. Doing an activity like this (rather than typical partner introductions) was fun & gave us a chance to really choose what information was presented. It truly gave us a chance to express who we are as students, friends, & family members. This task almost impacts my future because I would love to use these various tools in the future. I will either introduce myself to my students through one of these tools, or if my students are old enough, I will present the same type of project in my classroom.
