We started class today with a discussion of chapter 4 in “Rethinking Education in the Age of Technology.” One thing I found to be extremely interesting was the second website the group showed us called “National Center for Education Statistics.” If found this website to be interesting for my future job opportunities. If I am applying for a teaching job at a certain school, I can easily find out important things such as the teacher-to-student ration or how diverse the school is. This would be important information to have when going into an interview. The next thing we talked about in class was the iRLO project. It was fun & interesting to be introduced to the Scratch website. Although I do not have a lot of experience with yet, I am very excited to continue learning & exploring. I was very confused when Professor Boyer showed us a very simply version, but once he showed us a more developed iRLO, I was very excited! I can’t wait to create my own iRLO! I always imagined used fun activities or games in my classroom, but I never expected to be able to create my own game/activity! This has showed me that if I am focusing on a certain content or topic in my classroom, and my students do not understand, than I can create something on scratch to help them practice & learn this topic better.
