My thoughts on Chapter 8 of "Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts"

This reading has once again expanded my knowledge about the various technological tools that can be incorporated in a classroom. The tool that I found to be most important in this chapter was screencasting. I felt as though this is something all teachers and administrators can incorporate into their classrooms or schools. It can be used for administrators on the school website (to show visitors how to navigate or work with various web pages.) It can also be used in a variety of ways in the classroom with all ages & grades. As for the other two tools, podcasts and live streaming, I found them both to be very interesting tools, but I also found them to be more difficult than some of the other tools we have learned about in the past. I feel that we have been educated on some many new technological tools & they are the few that I would be least likely to use in my classroom.
One thing that I may do differently as a future educator, as a direct result from this reading, would be with the tool of screencasting. One thing that really stood out to me in this chapter was the idea of using this tool for homework help. I think it would be a great resource for my students if they are at home and having trouble with a homework problem. I can screencast a similar, but not identical problem, and I can walk them through the steps they will need to get started. If the students still do not understand the problem than it is something that will need to be addressed in person, but this is just an extra resource if they hit a “rough patch” within their homework. I can’t truly see myself using the other two tools that were presented in this chapter, but it is a possibility that I may use live streaming. I would possibly use this tool for students who were absent or are unable to make it to class. It would be a way for students to still see what is happening in class without actually being in the classroom.
